Overview
The Gen 6 version encompasses many upgrades the shooting public has been asking for. This is the best shooting Glock out there, with deeper slide serrations, flat-faced trigger, RTF6 grip texture, enhanced beavertail and redesigned thumb rest.
Who it's for: Concealed carry shooters, duty users, and competitive shooters who value out-of-the-box ergonomics and factory optics readiness without aftermarket modifications.
Pros
- Vastly improved ergonomics with extended grip texture and improved grit; beavertail helps mitigate muzzle flip.
- New factory optics-mounting system takes a more thorough approach to accommodate modern shooters with Glock's new Gen6 Optic Ready System, with the optic bed sitting deeper in the slide for a lower height over the bore axis.
- Improved grip texturing and trigger undercut allow you to maintain a higher grip with more control.
- External dimensions are unchanged, so Gen 5 holsters and magazines still fit.
- Reliability is confirmed; the improvements are incremental but add up; Gen6 shoots more accurately than Gen5.
Cons
- Still suffers from an underwhelming trigger (though the flat trigger face improves control despite unchanged pull weight of 5.6 to 5.8 pounds).
- Every aftermarket trigger manufacturer has been quiet on Gen 6 fitment because internals shifted enough that Gen 5 trigger parts do not cross-fit.
- The guide rod end on the G19 and G45 can make the fit of 6000 series light-bearing holstered feel snug.
- Factory optics plates are included but Holosun 509T needs an aftermarket ORS plate.
What to look for
- Optic footprint: Factory plates support RMR, Shield/Delta Point/Holosun K, and C-More pattern footprints. The ORS system is different from legacy MOS.
- Holsters and magazines transfer from Gen 5, but barrels do not.
- Aftermarket trigger ecosystem is still maturing—CMC is first to market with a Gen6-specific drop-in; wait for full cassettes from Timney, Apex, or Johnny Glocks if you want a complete replacement.
- If adding an optic, you'll need an optics-compatible holster; standard holsters will fit the base gun.
- The 3 optics plates act as crush washers, allowing the optic to sit deeper in the slide for a lower bore axis.
